Beautiful but sad day today. A dead sea lion in the harbor just off the launch beach. Barely see enough sea lions at all anymore…One of the research facilities around here, I think, picks up the bodies and does autopsies. I guess now is the time for me to find out who that is…
So, tide was just past high when I got out on the water – and it had been really high (6 feet). The drop was huge (to -1 feet). For me this means a great day to pick up trash/litter in the Slough! I had a nice haul by the time I got back – although I couldn’t quite figure out how to get the 55 gallon blue plastic drum onto my kayak (so I left it for someone with a boat to pick up).
More sea lions on the dock today (hooray)! I surely hope they let them be. I love the sea lions! They love the dock!
Tide being so high, some willets and marbled godwits hang out in a clump
Lots of Clarks/Western grebes today – someday, I will learn to tell them apart.
Otters (and some idiot kayakers who paddled right up to (within 3-5 feet) a raft of mother/baby otters – close enough that the otters had to interrupt their rest and swim away. Why are people so stupid/rude? Wish I had better pictures to post on America’s Most Wanted…).
Ducks, grebes, a gull and some geese (or are they just bigger ducks)?
P.S. Although this woman has a pink hat and is in a blue boat – and has a blue PFD (all descriptions I give of how to find me on the water), she is not me.
